THE PATH TO iMORLEY DIGITAL SOLUTIONS

I’ve worked across finance teams for over 20 years — from SMEs to PLCs — in just about every role going (apart from FD, which has never really been my bag). What I do have is a clear understanding of how finance should operate — and the impact and consequences for people and businesses when it doesn’t.

For 15 of those years, I was deep in management accounting and systems roles. I also had the privilege of leading and transforming a Finance Transactions team — which sharpened my view even further on how broken processes affect the people doing the work, and the leaders who rely on them.

Being naturally inquisitive, I’ve never been good at accepting, “this is just how we do it.” Especially when the answer was basically, “We just did what Bob did” — and Bob left two years ago, with all the Excel links still pointing to his desktop… Classic.

Time and again, I found myself saying the same thing…

“There’s Got To Be A Better Way”

That’s what drove me to get under the skin of systems — to find out how they work, how they break, how people break them (and they do find ingenious ways of doing so), and how they can be made better.

That curiosity turned into something more. I started designing smarter ways of working — not just for myself, but for the teams around me. Then for other departments. And eventually, across entire businesses.

That led me to Systems Accounting (after management accounts roles) — a role I loved, and one I was nudged into (thankfully) by a boss who saw something in me. It scratched the itch for fixing, building, and improving. I got to lead system changes, fix what was broken, and make things work for the people using them.

More recently, I’ve been delivering solutions as a Workday Adaptive Planning consultant. But the idea to go out on my own? That’s been quietly growing for years.

In March 2025, I got the unexpected opportunity to make it happen. To build something I’ve been wanting to do for over a decade — but now with the experience, the scars, and the clarity to do it properly.
